The cat loses a document inscribed: "state secrets"; on another: “jj g”. The other vignette, trial scene with, for the magistrates (unicorn, dog, fox and cat). The accused, a cat. Behind the jury, coat of arms surmounted by a crown, and on either side of an ox's head, unicorn, lion and inscription: "jonh bull". historical commentary:
this print illustrates scenes from the private and public lives of animals drawn by grandville (1840-1842). Libretto of peines de coeur d'une chat anglaise written by h. De balzac. It seems that the drawings in the first volume date from 1841 and those in the second volume from 1842 (see exhibition catalog "grandville original drawings", 1986-1987).
