Ferdinand iii the saint († 1252), king of castile and león and canonized in 1671, appears kneeling and praying on a crimson velvet cushion with tassels at the corners. His hands are together and his head is slightly tilted forward, in a devout attitude. This imaginary portrait represents the character with an age between 30 and 35 years. His hair is long on the sides and cut over his forehead, in the style of the 15th century and not as was usual in the 13th century; and youthful, little-grown beard. He wears a tunicela with gold fringe, half steel armor, leggings and gregues, a fan ruff, boots and a royal mantle of gold tissue lined with ermines, fastened to the chest, with a gold necklace around his neck, from which hangs a medal of the virgin; and on the kneeler in front of him are, on another cushion, the scepter and the crown.
