Legiony Polskie, Msza polowa na cmentarzu w Wołczecku, Wołyń, Stanisław Janowski

The photo was taken during a field mass at the cemetery in wołczeck (volhynia), where legionnaires who died in the autumn fighting of 1915 or died later of wounds and diseases were buried. The cemetery was located behind the positions occupied by legionary units since november 1915. In the photo we see a group of legionnaires in uhlan sheepskin coats (probably from the 2nd uhlan regiment of the polish people's republic) kneeling during the elevation at a field mass. They face the altar, which is located under a pine tree. A cross is nailed to its trunk. At the altar there is a priest with a host in his hands and two altar boys-soldiers. The photo was probably taken in the fall of 1915 or in march 1916, just before the march of the 2nd uhlan regiment to czewel. Date: listopad 1915 - marzec 1916.
