Study of Lions, Jean-Léon Gérôme, circa 1900

Gérôme, one of the most successful academic artists and teachers in france during the second half of the 19th century, traveled to the near east searching for subjects. During the late 1880s, he was fascinated by animals, particularly lions. Date: circa 1900. Place of creation: France. Dimensions: height: 21.9 cm (8.6 in); width: 35.2 cm (13.8 in). Medium: paper, pencil. Collection: Walters Art Museum.
