The january 8, 1860 issue of illustreret tidende had an article about the spanish diplomat (and poet) bernardino de rebolledo, accompanied by this illustration on page 126. During his stay as envoy to the danish court in copenhagen, rebolledo was portrayed by karel van mander iii. That painting perished in the fire of frederiksborg castle in december 1859. Before that happened, the young painter f. C. Lund had made a watercolour copy of van mander's work, and the watercolur formed the basis for the illustration in illustreret tidende.
