Field post letters from hans koch, vienna, world war ii, eastern front, 1922-1945 previous letter (1942-10-05) letter no. 98 (1942-10-17) next letter (1942-10-20) envelope: front back text braunschweig, 17. X. 42. My dear mum! i received your registered letter, newspaper and the other letter with great joy and gratitude. I don’t yet know whether i can still use the t. Certificate. I wanted to try and see if i could get unscheduled leave. But now new regulations have come out and it’s more difficult. Well, we’ll see what we can do, i don’t believe in it any more. You’re right, mum, only eat as much as you can and treat yourself to something now and then. So mrs tschirtner isn’t angry, well then it’ll be fine. Karl has now written to me again, saying he is doing well and has had few fights. He will probably soon be promoted to private. The pictures will not be ready for another 14 days, but that's ok. I also went to the photographer and the pictures will be ready soon. I'm also having dental treatment again. Today i was with a work detail at the train station unloading potatoes. We "organized" apples there, which was fun. I'm often on guard duty now, so i have to stay in the barracks. Date: 17 October 1942.
