Wedding in the City of Banten de Bry, Johann Theodor de Bry, 1599

A wedding in bantam translation: title: wedding and (hochzeitliche folenniter) in the city of bantam. Text: in accordance with the historians who narrate the process of arranged marriage in bantam. A saddled horse is brought to the groom afternoon on which he rides through town the slaves who are included in the wedding agreement arrive in the afternoon at the bride's house and deliver the gifts which include the dowry in the evening when the groom is done riding they have a great meal with friends and relatives who go back to their own houses afterwards. But the groom takes the bride behind a curtain where he makes her airy and the bride won't be seen by any other man ever again. Date: 1599.
