The abdication of charles v: at centre, charles v places his left hand on his brother ferdinand, who will replace him as holy roman emperor, with a hand on his hip, and his right hand on the head of his son, philip, who he names as king of spain, and who kneels on the steps; at left of the platform, charles' sister, queen mary of hungary, sits on the throne, dressed in white; at left and right, and on the balcony at upper right, crowds of figures watching the ceremony; a man at centre right kneeling, holds a crowd and sceptre; after louis gallait. 1841 lithograph.
