Two scenes; the first; a drunken father, in ragged clothes and with a bandage round his head, escorted home by his pretty wife, two of their children at their heels, both barefoot, the younger weeping on her mother's skirts, a well-dressed girl to the left, swigging from a gin bottle, the door of a gin palace beyond, with the spirits sold lettered to the windows; the second, a well-dressed middle-class family clustered around a public fountain, drinking from the communal beakers, the father helping his son to a glass, the daughter filling a cup, her arm around her sister and the mother to the left and holding a baby, the railings of a square or park behind; lithograph.
