The purpose of holbein's pen-and-wash studies of women from this period is not known, though there is a strong emphasis on their clothes. This is one of three, of the group of six, that scholars believe are not by holbein himself, though he is probably responsible for the motif. The subject here wears love-knots on her plumed cap.
