Великий князь владимир мономах postcard by ivan bilibine (1876-1942) dated 1926. On the back of the card "j. Bilibine - "princes of ancient russia" series a n°3 - wladimir monomachus (1113-1125) copyright by edition sté "n. P. Karbasnikoff" 23, rue de richelieu, paris 1st" ivan bilibine emigrated to egypt in 1920 but settled in paris in 1925 where he rented a large workshop and an apartment on boulevard pasteur in paris. Soon he bought land in la favière near toulon where he spent the summer with milioukov and sacha tcherny. Painter and decorator, he works for the russian opera and illustrates numerous books (including albums by father castor). In 1934, he met the ussr ambassador in paris, mr. Potemkin. He worked for the soviet embassy painting a set then left for leningrad with his wife in 1936. There he worked for the opera, taught, and created sets. He died during the blockade of leningrad during the war. Date: 1926.
