Anders sparrman (1748-1820). Sparrman was a disciple of carl von linné. In 1765, he joined an expedition to china as a ship's doctor. In 1772 he joined james cook's second voyage and explored australia, oceania and south america. On linné's recommendation, he traveled in 1772 to southern africa where he studied the natural life and the population. In 1787 he took part in a trip to west africa. The portrait is registered in the swedish portrait archive spa 1973:272. Date: 1 January 1770.
