Takada examines a fire hose nozzle recovered from the wreck of css alabama at the conservation laboratory at naval history and heritage command underwater archeology branch. Css alabama was a commerce raider belonging to the confederate states navy during the civil war. She sank off the coast of france during a battle with uss kearsarge june 19, 1864. (u. S.
