Édouard manet - woman in a striped dress (c. 1877-80). Oil on canvas. Caumont hotel (aix-en-provence)
work found unfinished in the artist's studio upon his death in 1883. Part of the great tradition of painted portraits (van dyck, velazquez. . . ). This painting also reveals manet's interest in the (feminine) fashion of his time. The identity of the model and the location are not known; manet deliberately makes them mysterious by blurring certain features and physical landmarks.
