'No.4'; HMS 'King Edward VII' and the squadron at anchor RMG PV1038, William Lionel Wyllie, circa September 1907

'no. 4'; hms 'king edward vii' and the squadron at anchor numbered and inscribed by the artist, 'no. 4 king edward vii, new zealand, hibernia, britannia, commonwealth, africa, hindustan'. It is one of a group of four drawings (pae1035-pae1038) showing battleships of the 'king edward vii' class during squadron evolutions in the period 1907-09, while serving in the channel fleet. The set, each within a ruled frame, was probably made for illustration use. The ships are here shown at anchor, probably off portsmouth, with small craft passing between them. The 1st division of 'king edward vii', 'new zealand', 'hibernia' and 'britannia' is on the left. The 2nd division of 'hindustan', 'africa' and 'commonwealth' is on the right. 'dominion', the eighth unit of the class, does not appear to be present so perhaps was not involved. Date: circa September 1907. Dimensions: 122 mm x 252 mm. Collection: Fine art.
