Henri de Guise at Henri III's at the Louvre in 1588., Albert Aublet, 1880

"the haughty courtier [duke henri de guise] bows deeply before the king [henry iii] who is seated and half-turning away. He looks at him with an irritated air and is about to reproach him for having come to the louvre despite his formal order. Catherine de medici is with her son, and with a gesture introduces him to the duke, whose retinue casts worried glances on the royal face. The costumes of the ladies and lords of the court are rendered with precision and the execution is of the most careful. " (véron dictionary, 1880). Oil on parquet panel, signed and dated lower right. Resumption of the work made in 1877 for the 1878 salon. Private collection. Object Type: painting. Date: 1880. Dimensions: height: 93 cm (36.6 in); width: 122 cm (48 in). Medium: oil on panel.
