'britannia' being towed off the coast of candia [crete]; illustration to falconer's 'the shipwreck' (1811 ed. , p. 9) the fourth of a series of ten drawings, of which the collection holds nine (paf5913–21). The printed description of the plate based on it, probably written by pocock, reads: 'light, variable, and transient airs of wind. The ship appears under all her sails. Steering sails alternately set and hauled down. The yards braced and squared, occasionally to catch the breeze – boats ahead, towing the ship off the shore. ' signed by the artist and dated, lower right.
