Cojo (kodjo) was one of the three men who were convicted for the great city fire of paramaribo (1832). The fire destroyed in a short time about 50 houses and the lutheran church. The complete drawing includes the the portraits of the two other convicts mentor and present and was made by the surinamese artist gerrit schouten on january 24, 1833 and was later found among the papers of the president of the court of justice, judge adriaan françois lammens.
