Thomas Un an a Rome Pl XXXIII Infiorata, 1823

The infiorata. (pl. Xxxiii. )on the day of the octave of corpus christi, while in rome a large procession takes place again under the colonnade of saint peter, in gennesano [sic: genzano], a small town on the shores of lake nemi, a solemn procession advances on carpets of flowers artistically prepared and composed mainly of designs of coats of arms. On each side of the streets stand stakes surrounded by foliage and from which garlands of flowers are suspended. This spectacle offers a most graceful look, and this is what gave this festival the nickname of infiorata or the flower. It usually attracts a lot of people to gennesano.
