Courtly scene; a king with crown and sceptre, seated on a medieval throne, his feet resting on a footstool or stool, surrounded by five persons or courtiers, and listening to the court jester, who wears a cap or cowl trimmed with donkey ears and a robe trimmed with bells, the index finger of his right hand raised, holding the marotte in his left hand.
