The gotthard railway company was able to open the “ticino valley railways” (chiasso-lugano and biasca-bellinzona-locarno) in 1874. The picture shows a characteristic train with locomotive e 2/2 no. 4, built in 1874 in the swiss locomotive and machine works in winterthur, and two-axle carriages in the provisional bellinzona station.
