Field post letters from hans koch, vienna, world war ii, eastern front, 1922-1945 previous letter (1935-08-02) letter date (1935-08-16) next letter (1935-08-30) ehenbichl, august 16, 1935. Dear mrs. Koch, please forgive me for only writing to you today, even though hansi has been with us for some time now! there is always a lot to do at home and most of the time i am too tired to write. Hansi arrived happy and healthy. At 11:45 in the morning we received the card from the little negro, and at 11:30 the boy was supposed to arrive by car. My brother thomas was just able to manage on his bike to pick hansi up from the car in reutte. After dinner - we had just cooked a large amount of tyrolean dumplings - the tired hansi slept for 3 hours. In the evening, when we were unpacking, to my great surprise, he gave me your beautiful presents. I was very pleased with them: with the doll as well as with the pretty mugs [the haferl: in the bavarian-austrian language area, colloquially: (large) cup]. Everything arrived in my hands intact and safe, not a handle was missing from the mugs and not a hair on the lovely doll was bent. Thank you very much for the great joy you gave me! just unpleasant. Date: 16 August 1935.
