Portrait of the french actor lekain in the costume of his debut role of titus in voltaire's brutus (14 september 1750, comédie-française; accepted as a member of the company on 24 february 1752). The engraving also includes a depiction of scene 3 of act 4 from voltaire's l'orphelin de la chine, first performed at the comédie-française on 20 august 1755 with lekain in the leading role of ghengis khan.
