iconographic description:
puppet theater scene in which louis-philippe, arms raised in the air, dressed as punch, addresses charles x, ready to fall from the stage. But the king of the french is himself fought by the figure of the republic who snatches the stick of “power” from him. This sketch is presented to the crowd, seen from behind, by talleyrand en paillasse. His clothing bears the dates of the oaths he took during the different regimes: to the states-general, to the constituent assembly, to the consulate, to the empire, to the restoration, to charles in the background is the tuileries palace, above which the tricolor flag flies.
