scenes from the private and public lives of animals. As soon as i set foot on the island, i was assailed by strange animals serving the state. Caricature. Two vignettes, animals mimicking men. On the left, a weasel and a mouse, including one in a police uniform (cocked hat), are searching a house in the countryside. Two hens are questioned. Broken eggs, cupboard, basket, ladder, portrait of a rooster, litter box. On the right, a peacock in costume, with a sword and decorations (or medals), seated on an armchair (throne?) whose back is decorated with peacock feathers and the feet are in the shape of chicken feet. Title: “my master, stubbornly called the illustrious marmus. ”

this print illustrates scenes from the private and public lives of animals. Drawing by grandville (1840-1842). It seems that the drawings of the first volume date from 1841 and those of the second volume from 1842 (see exhibition catalog "grandville original drawings", 1986-1987).
