Very Rich Hours of the Duke of Berry Folio 5, verso: May, between 1412 and 1416

This month is illustrated by the traditional cavalcade of may 1: young people go on horseback, preceded by trumpet players. They go into the forest to look for branches that they will carry on their heads or around their necks. On this occasion, the ladies wear a long green dress, as is the case for three of them here. Several characters wear foliage in their hairstyle. The background constructions have given rise to divergent interpretations. It could be the palais de la cité in paris with the châtelet on the left, the conciergerie and the clock tower. Object Type: manuscript illumination. Genre: genre art. Date: between 1412 and 1416. Dimensions: height: 22.5 cm (8.8 in); width: 13.6 cm (5.3 in). Medium: painting on vellum. Depicted People: John I, Duke of Bourbon, Marie of Berry, Duchess of Auvergne. Collection: Condé Museum.
