Lithuanian and livonian helmets the upper and lower helmets, or, according to inventories, cuirass caps, shown in the drawing, belonged to the cuirass, or full armor in iron; the first with a gilded lattice visor, lowered from the inside, the second with a solid outer one. The middle helmet is actually an iron cap with a brim, used with cuirasses - iron breastplates with or without brims. The upper helmet, according to the inventory of 1687 (sheet 495), belongs to one of the following three cuirass armors: "three cuirass armors, painted, with caps and frames, and with flaps, and with mittens, and including one left gauntlet, one with a smooth iron silver nail to the edge; the third - copper; one of the armor has a cap with a lattice; two of the caps have noses, one gilded, the other silver; on the necks of two of the caps are iron silver burrs, on the swivels are iron silver nails; the buckles on the frames and on the belts are iron silver; the belt is trimmed with red kindyak; the mittens are lined with red kindyak; at the back of two of the caps are iron silver pipes; the third armor has a cap lined with yellow damask; at the back is a gilded copper pipe, the clasps are made of yellow damask, the stars are gilded copper, the hooks are gilded iron; at the frames the belt clasps are red, the buckles are double gilded copper; the mitten is lined with white leather. And according to the current census of the year and upon inspection, those armors matched the previous census books; one of them is missing a right glove; the price is eighty rubles; and in the previous census books they were listed first by ten. " cuirass helmets, as well as cuirasses, were not used by us; although the inventories contain the cuirasses of the boyar nikita ivanovich romanov and prince ivan alekseevich vorotynsky, which were received by the treasury among the belongings. Without a doubt, these knightly armors were kept by them as trophies of the wars with the livonians. As for iron hats with brims, they were worn with or without armor by german regiments, both mounted and foot, established under tsar mikhail fedorovich in the thirties of the 17th century: in 1631, dutch ambassadors presented as a gift “two full armor, such as are worn by mounted men who ride with arquebuses,” i.
