Field post letters from hans koch, vienna, world war ii, eastern front, 1922-1945 previous letter (1942-08-09) letter date (1942-08-13) next letter (1942-08-14) envelope: front: blank back: blank text [poldi's views on the military have] also changed completely. I heard from a comrade who came from vienna that you now have air raid warnings more often. Who would have thought it? it must be the russians? have they also dropped bombs? what do the "viennese" say about that? it's quiet here now. Yesterday we had another march with music, it was really nice. Otherwise i'm fine, healthy and happy. The weather is still nice, so i go swimming often. - you write whether i'm torn, yes, dear mama, i'll just let it happen as it happens. It doesn't matter whether it's east, west or africa, if you're lucky you can get through anywhere. Let's hope that i'm lucky like i have been so far! thanks again for everything. The apples from your homeland taste wonderful but they were meant for you, you need the fruit to give you strength. Many greetings and kisses from your grateful hansl. Date: 13 August 1942.
