Sir Thomas Pope, John Faber

Sir thomas pope (c. 1507 - 1559), founder of trinity college, oxford. Born at deddington, oxfordshire. Showing his coat of arms: per pale or and azure, on a chevron between three griffin's heads erased four fleurs-de-lis all counter-changed (burke, sir bernard, the general armory, london, 1884, p. 814 "pope of wilcote, wroxton and deddington, oxfordshire"), grant of arms 26 june 1535 (history of parliament biography[1]), which became the arms of trinity college, oxford. He wears a livery collar of a mermaid holding a mirror. Object Type: painting. Date: between circa 1712 and circa 1714. Dimensions: 10 1/8 in. x 8 in. (258 mm x 202 mm) plate size; 10 7/8 in. x 8 1/2 in. (275 mm x 217 mm) paper size. Medium: mezzotint print.
