History of fashion over a century. Restoration., Henry Valentin, 10 March 1849
These 1849 engravings show examples of women and men's fashion during the restoration (1815-1830). At this time, the high waisted dresses that characterized the empire style disappeared, and women's dresses became more intricate and voluminous. The article that goes with these prints laments the influence of english fashion and the use of english words (for many technical terms) in the field of fashion. Date: 10 March 1849. Dimensions: height: 32 cm (12.5 in); width: 23.3 cm (9.1 in). Medium: engraving. Collection: Brown University Library. Histoire de la mode depuis un siècle. Restauration
