This series of nine prints depicts the balls and parties on the eve of the second empire. The caricatures are satirical representations of financial and economic concerns of the french aristocracy, such as the man who worries about the use of his candles, or the woman who is complaining that the guests are eating too much. This view is characteristic of the way that the aristocracy was perceived after the july monarchy, and even more during the second empire. Date: 14 February 1852. Dimensions: 31.5 x 23 cm. Medium: engraving. Collection: Brown University Library. Le bal à Paris; Caricatures par Cham
