The two portrait reliefs (see also kms5537) were determined to be german and assumed to represent elector johann d. Permanent of saxony and his wife sofia of mecklenburg. In a letter in 1955, karl feutchmayr identified them as works by weiditz and as depicting ulrich ebinger and probably his wife, sibylla meiting, with reference to g. Habich, "die deutschen schaumünzen des xvi. Jahrhunderts", i, 1929, 1, no. 392, t. Li, 1, cf. Ibid. No. 391 with an inscription that identifies the person portrayed and is dated 1531. Ulrich ebinger was a large merchant in ulm, imperial councilor and in 1528 plenipotentiary in negotiations with charles v. In both portraits he wears the cross of the order of s. Jago. (see: olsen 1980, p. 143). Object Type: locket. Medium: boxwood. Collection: Statens Museum for Kunst.
