This is a work sent by the artist in his first year of retirement in rome, where he participated in the exhibition. It was shown in the pensioners section in rome of the national exhibition of fine arts of 1884. The inscription found on the intrados of the pillar alludes to the occupation of the protagonists of the scene, it is translated as follows: "the company of gladiators of the aedile a. Suetio certo will fight in pompeii on may 31. There will be hunting and awnings. ". Object Type: painting. Date: 1882. Dimensions: height: 230 cm (90.5 in); width: 300 cm (118.1 in).
