This work was among ten that sargent presented to the imperial war museum in 1919. In a letter to alfred yockney on 27 december 1918, he stated: 'i think my watercolours gain from being seen together in a certain quantity, and i would be glad to add to the four you have selected by giving some more. But i would like to have your assurance that they would all be hung and hung together. Image: a view over fields with a crashed aircraft in the background. In the foreground two labourers gather the crop into bundles. The woman ties the sheaf, while the man works with a long handles scythe. They are both bent over their work, unheeding the scene behind. Date: 1918 (First World War).
