iconographic description:
a man in magistrate's uniform is represented full-length. His face is barely visible, crushed by the hat. He rests his right hand on a sign on which appears a list of names: these are those of military governors sentenced to death for treason against the king, under the restoration, because of their rallying to napoleon. This is charles angélique françois huchet de la bédoyère, a soldier executed in 1815 (found guilty of rebellion and treason, and accused of not having taken advantage of the eight-day period granted by the king's ordinance to all the perpetrators of bonaparte, to return to duty). Mouton duvernet: military governor sentenced to death by the war council in 1816. Berton: condemned by the royal court of poitiers and executed on october 5, 1822. On march 19, 1820, jean-françois bories, jean-joseph pommier, charles goubin and marius-claude raoulx, the four sergeants of la rochelle, were arrested then sentenced to death: these four men were accused to belong to the secret society of carbonari, which was suspected of plotting against louis xviii. The lawyer represented is perhaps mr. De marchangy, in his official clothes. It was he who had the four “charbonniers” executed. A few skulls on the ground symbolize the death sentence of these men. Finally, augustin joseph caron was executed in 1822 for treason. The pl. Also denounces the irremovability of the magistrates of the seat, the principle of which was established by andré dupin in 1830. Cf. Pl. 51 of number 26 of the caricature evoking the subject of the carbonari, and the article p. 373-374 of issue 47. Mode of acquisition: retrospective registration
