Lady Holding a Book, Bernardino Licinio

Lady Holding a Book, Bernardino Licinio

"this portrait of a young, magnificently dressed lady is clearly a work by bernardino licinio, whose works often depict ladies from venetian society. The versatile licinio was one of the most important artists of the lagoon city between the 1530s and 1560s. The present painting shows all the characteristics of licinio's mature art: the rounded figure is typical of the artist's repertoire of successful female portraits. Our painting is similar to many other portraits of ladies executed by licinio between 1530 and 1540 however the most closely comparable examples are the portrait of a lady at the accademia carrara in bergamo; portrait of a woman at the gemäldegalerie in dresden (dated 1533); portrait of a woman at the museo del prado in madrid; portrait of duchessa di valmerode (formerly ducal museum, gotha; dated 1536) or lady in a red dress holding a book at the pinacoteca civica in pavia , dated 1540. " [1]. Object Type: painting. Genre: portrait. Date: 16th century. Dimensions: height: 107 cm (42.1 in) ; width: 90 cm (35.4 in). Medium: oil on canvas. Collection: Private collection.
