Portrait of adrien-louis cochelet, consul general of france in alexandria in egypt from 1837 to 1841 wearing the insignia of commander of the legion of honor and leopold of belgium, the iron crown and the order of the holy sepulchre. His sword, modeled on the institute of egypt, recalls his assignment as well as the documents on the letterhead of the consulate general of egypt. The painter louis-jean-baptiste bourdon presented at the salon of 1842 (number 233 of the booklet) a painting entitled portrait of mr. Cochelet, consul general in egypt which is very probably the present portrait. At the salon of 1844, bourdon presented another painting entitled presentation of mgr the reverend guardian of the holy sepulcher, to méhémet-ali, viceroy of egypt, by m.
