New Orleans LA - Jackson Square and Monument (NBY 432382)

Back of card, st. Louis cathedral and jackson square, new orleans, la. - erected in 1792 at a cost of $50,000 and rebuilt in 1851. The site on which the st. Louis cathedral stands was selected in 1718 by bienville for a place of worship. In 1724 a structure of brick was erected and known as the parish church of st. Louis. It was destroyed by fire in 1788. Unknown date
