This drawing by georges-antoine rochegrosse served as a model for the engraving by fortuné méaulle reproduced on page 485 of victor hugo's novel, l'homme qui rit, in the édition hugues (1886). The illustration corresponds to the text of the second part "by order of the king", book vi "various aspects of ursus", chapter ii "what he does". Date: circa 1886.
