iconographic description:
this vase with two handles is decorated on the neck with a frieze of putti and roses in paste on paste, and at the base with a decoration of thistle leaves. Historical commentary:
with the jardinière des titans and the round children's vase, the petit palais now has three vases from the choisy-le-roi manufacture whose brilliant and virtuoso production is little represented in french collections. At the base, delirious putti, chubby and mocking infants, emerge among thistle leaves with jagged contours and rise to attack the pass in a swirling movement. Perfect mastery of the difficult technique of paste on paste allows the ceramist to vary the relief and surface effects. His science of colors allows him to marry and blend the rarest tones: pale pinks and languid greens. Active between 1805 and 1938, the choisy-le-roi manufacture played an important role in the 19th century in the field of artistic ceramics. She called on talented artists, such as chaplet, dammouse, albert-ernest and louis-robert carrier-belleuse and obtained numerous awards at the universal exhibitions. Louis-robert carrier-belleuse received dual training as a sculptor and painter from his father and cabanel. Very early on, he showed a keen interest in "industrial arts": he took lessons from deck and participated in the sèvres competition in 1882 by submitting a project for a planter. In 1890, he was appointed director of art works at the choisy-le-roi earthenware factory. D. M. Themes / subjects / places represented:
