You will look in vain for this gunboat in the chilean navy list. It was ordered by chile in 1879 and launched in 1880 as the arturo prat, but then chile cancelled the order at armstrong whitworth in england. The contract for the unfinished ship was later taken over by japan, and she was finished as the gunboat/small cruiser tsukushi, arriving in japan in 1883. So martino was too swift when he made the painting, based on what the vessel would look like if it had been completed by chile. Object Type: painting. Date: circa 1880. Dimensions: height: 22.8 cm (8.9 in); width: 38 cm (14.9 in). Medium: oil on canvas. Collection: Unknown. Eduardo de Martino - A Chilean gunboat firing a salute
