Depicted in the colorful attire of a cossack ataman, with an award medal on his chest; according to j. Shtelin, antropov painted this portrait for "hetman" razumovsky. Back in 1742, the ataman was presented with a miniature portrait of empress elizabeth petrovna, framed with diamonds. Antropov painted this portrait, slightly enlarged and brought to the foreground, using the bright blue color of the ribbon for decoration. The commissioned portrait of the ataman was undoubtedly painted from life. The artist recreates such features of the face that can only be recorded through direct observation: a crease on the forehead, wrinkles under the eyes, a smooth double chin. Date: 1761.
