Calvert jones, fine house, saint at corner, malta 1846 (schaaf 3056). This was in paolino vassallo square commonly known as is-suq ta' bormla, to the right of today's labour party club. The underlying first four warehouses (mhazen) survived the war. The first under the statue was, until the 1960s, cannavò’s barber shop with its lovely italian-styled soffit. It was eventually demolished to make way for the new road. The next two shops were still in use till a few years ago by caruana clothes store. Next was pavia hardware store. Just after the war, pavia occupied the inner store on the right building before going up the steps. Source: [1]. Date: 1 November 1846.
