New York (steamboat 1836) 03, James Bard, 1841

The long island sound steamboat new york, built for the new haven steamboat company in 1836. The steamboat croton can be seen in the background. This painting shows new york after her 1841 rebuild; earlier images of the steamer show her with a single, centrally located smokestack, as opposed to the boilers and smokestacks on the guards as shown here. Date: 1841.
