Field post letters from hans koch, vienna, world war ii, eastern front, 1922-1945 previous letter (1941-05-04) letter no. 12 (1941-05-14) next letter (1941-05-21) envelope: front back text göttingen, may 14, 1941. My dear mum! today, on your birthday, i just want to write to you and imagine that i am standing in front of you and thank you for everything kind and good. If i was at home, i would have given you flowers like i always do, but unfortunately that isn't possible. But i think it is only now that i am far away and know what a dear mother is that i can thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything kind and good! you must not be sad on this day, you must be really proud. Because not every mother is lucky enough to have a son who has to defend his fatherland with a weapon in his hand in these proud times. I will think of you especially on this day and look at your picture and pray that you stay fresh and healthy for a long time. I can't write everything the way i feel inside, but you understand me. I'm putting a kiss on the bottom right and when you get this letter and do the same, we will have kissed on this day. Once again, all the best and a thousand kisses from your hansel. Date: 14 May 1941.
