Milton Ranges, Gravesend RMG PU9965, William Lionel Wyllie, 1914 ?

Milton ranges, gravesend a watercolour study looking east along a raised dyke with the thames, and barges on it, to the left and the firing range to the right, beyond a flanking line of telegraph wires. One man in red (royal marine?) and another in khaki relax in the grass on the left looking at a map or newspaper, two more in khaki watch others firing at white targets against the distant range butts. Another group of three approach along the path on the dyke. The line of the river, the dyke and the telegraph poles create a sense of deep recession to the horizon, cutting across the horizontals wyllie establishes by the succession of yellow, green and brown lines on the range side. Date: 1914 ?. Dimensions: 245 mm x 346 mm. Collection: Fine art.
