Portrait of Jacob Trip (1575-1661)., Nicolaes Maes, possibly 1665

Jacob trip, 84 years old, ancestor of one of the most important trading families in holland, became wealthy in the international arms trade. He lived in dordrecht where he commissioned nicolaes maes for this portrait. Maes was a native of dordrecht, but lived for several years in amsterdam, where he apprenticed with rembrandt. Rembrandt also portrayed the old trip and his wife marghareta de geer. Another version with a pendant of his wife is in it. Object Type: painting. Genre: portrait. Date: possibly 1665.
