This is plate 13 from 'views in the mysore country. 'sawen-droog, from the s(outh)'. Savandurg was the most forbidding of all the hill forts in the area. Allan was obviously impressed with the site since he made two different views of it. He wrote: "a fortress constructed on a stupendous rock, the summit is split by a chasm into two peaks, forming two distinct forts, named the black and white rocks, and hitherto deemed impregnable. " nevertheless, british troops commanded by lt col stuart mounted a successful assault against the fort in december 1791. Item number: 37813. Object Type: print. Date: 1794.
