Portrait of the spanish sailor cayetano valdés (c. E. 1767-1835), who became the xvii captain general of the royal spanish navy. In c. E. 1809 he was promoted to lieutenant general & was appointed captain general of cadiz. The portrait was made in seville in c. E. 1847, on behalf of the naval museum of madrid, & the one portrayed appears half-length and head-on, wearing the small uniform of captain general & director general of the navy, & he wears the bands & plates of the great crosses of the orders of st. Ferdinand & st. Hermenegild & the veneration of knight of the order of malta. The painting entered the naval museum of madrid in c. E. 1847. Object Type: painting. Date: 1847.
