Pirano 1927. Drawing by ödön edvi illés. Ödön edvi illés (tolmács march 23, 1877 – budapest june 5, 1946) hungarian painter. He studied in budapest and paris. From 1901, he regularly participated in exhibitions in budapest and in the countryside. Several of his works are in the collections of the hungarian national gallery and the esztergom museum. Death of attila. Sign: ödön edvi illés. It was published under creative commons in the metapolisz dvd series with its signature and title. He painted the bust of miklós konkoly thege and the painting depicting the observatory in ógyalla is also from him. He started his career as an official at the meteorological institute. The edvi illés family can present many talented painters. Ödön edvi illés, who belonged to the youngest generation of painters in the family, was born on march 23, 1877 in tolmác, nógrád county. After graduating from secondary school, he became a student of mathematics and physics at the royal hungarian university of science in budapest, and at the age of 19 he joined the ranks of the national institute of meteorology and geomagnetism. From 1896, he worked as an honorary (unpaid) calculator at the institute, and from march 1, 1899, he worked as a paid calculator for five months. Some of his beautifully written articles were published in the magazine az időjárás, which was starting at the time, and his study entitled where is the 0-degree isotherm (az időjárás, 3. Éf. 1899, pp. 42-48) was also published in the famous meteorologische zeitschrift in german. His other article, on cloud height measurement without the use of a theodolite (az időjárás, 2nd edition 1898, pp. 84-87) can still be of interest to amateurs dealing with atmospheric phenomena. At the age of twenty-two, however, he unexpectedly turned his back on meteorology. He became a painting student in munich and paris. Upon returning home, he soon became a well-known artist. He participated in several exhibitions, and his painting winter landscape (snowy landscape) was purchased by the museum of fine arts. He was a recognized painter even after the first world war. He mainly painted landscapes, and his works are characterized by soft, blending pastel colors. The portraits of the first director, konkoly miklós schenzl guidó konkoly, and the following directors: lajos steiner, zsigmond róna, lajos fraunhoffer and antal réthly were commissioned by the meteorological institute. These pictures decorated the boardroom of the institute. Unfortunately, the first two pictures were seriously damaged, and the third was destroyed during the second world war. A painting by him depicting the konkoly observatory in ógyalla, circa 1897. The interesting thing about the picture is that it captures the constellation from a point of view that is not shown in photographs. Ödön edvi illés barely survived the siege of budapest. He died on june 5, 1946. His former colleague, dr. Antal réthly, the director of the institute of meteorology and geomagnetism, bid farewell to the meteorologist-turned-painter (az időjárás, 9-12. 1946, p. 102). In 1860, ádám edvi illés, a lawyer from pest, had a mansion built on his estate in tolmács, which was later taken over by his son ödön. His grandson, also named ödön, became a meteorologist and painter. We have a precise description of the estate of the elder edvi illés ödön. Its total area is 612 cadastral acres, of which 8. 5 are garden and interior land, 391 are arable, 19 are mowed, 30 are pasture, 154 are forest, 2. 5 are vineyards, and 7 are not subject to taxation. It was a moon. Economic and operating system operated in crop rotation 6. Source: http://www. Kieselbach. Hu/muvesz/edvi-illes-odon_8085, meteor 22 (1992) 1, 43—44. P.
